NGC2169

A compact winter cluster shows its distinctive pattern despite hugging the horizon.
NGC 2169 is a small open cluster in Orion whose brightest stars often resemble the digits “37”—a charming pattern in the rich winter star field.
Despite humid air and a very low elevation, the cluster stands out clearly with about 17 minutes total exposure.
At 250 mm focal length and f/5, there is ample context to render the surrounding star field atmospherically.
