About this celestial object

A quiet ellipse between two spirals: NGC 5982 hints at the dynamics of the Draco Trio.

NGC 5982 is an elliptical galaxy; together with spiral neighbors NGC 5981 and NGC 5985 it forms the well-known Draco Trio, a pleasing contrast of smooth halo and structured arms.

Captured on a late March night: in the wide field, the compact core stands off from the soft outer halo while faint background galaxies flicker around it.
