NGC2024

The Flame Nebula blazes beside Alnitak—etched by dust and reddened by hydrogen.
NGC 2024, the Flame Nebula in Orion, is an emission region where dark dust lanes against glowing hydrogen create the eponymous pattern.
It lies close to the belt star Alnitak; even short exposures show the striking dark structures against the reddish glow.
At 250 mm f/5, the field feels wide and high in contrast.
