M106

M106 glints as a bright spiral whirl just above the horizon.
This prominent spiral in Canes Venatici stands out even in small telescopes and lies many millions of light‑years away.
At only about 5° elevation and in moderately humid air, its compact core shows as a distinct patch of light.
A short‑focus 250 mm f/5 refractor gathered the light in a wide field.
