Eltanin
About this celestial object
Eltanin shines as the Dragon’s warm anchor—especially striking low over the horizon.
Eltanin (Gamma Draconis) is an orange giant and one of Draco’s most prominent guide stars.
At only about 9° high it shows its warm light against horizon haze, with the dense northern star field as a backdrop.
250 mm focal length at f/5 and many short exposures keep the stars tight and calm.
